Hello
I'm Lars Kongshaug, founder and owner of Vid-smith, as well as its principal director, videographer and editor. I have more than 30 years experience working in television and video production including producing, directing, writing, filming and editing. I am also an FAA-certified and insured drone operator.
Vid-smith is small by design, without full-time staff. On many projects I do much of the production work myself. This reduces costs and allows me to provide personal service while delivering a quality product at a reasonable price.
For larger or more complicated projects, I rely on a network of talented freelance production assistants, audio techs, videographers and graphic artists.
How I got here
I've been involved with making movies of one kind or another since first getting my hands on a Super8 film camera in elementary school. I studied filmmaking in college and began my professional career (after a brief stint teaching windsurfing in the Caribbean) at CBS News in New York. I spent 10 years with CBS as a producer, writer and video editor.
On the campaign trail with CBS News
After moving on from CBS in New York, I went freelance, continuing to work for the network in Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as for other broadcasters and production companies. Seeking a healthier lifestyle, my future wife and I packed up and hit the road for a few months, eventually landing in beautiful Bellingham, Washington. Not finding a suitable position in my field here, I decided to create one instead, and founded Vid-smith Video Production in 2000.
Now, more than 20 years later, Vid-smith continues to create videos for educational institutions, companies, non-profits, trade organizations and individuals. Many clients come back again and again to commission new projects, or update previous ones.
